Police Arrest 147 Suspects, Recover Ammunition, Weapons in Lagos Crackdown

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 147 suspected criminals and recovered 250 expanded cartridges, machetes, battle axes, illicit drugs and other dangerous items during a major security operation across criminal hideouts in the state.

The operation, conducted under Operation KO S'AYE III, was carried out in the early hours of Sunday at Boolar, Super Ile-Epo and other identified black spots following credible intelligence.

According to a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, a joint team of operatives drawn from various formations of the command raided the locations as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and deny hoodlums safe havens.

Items recovered during the operation include 250 expanded cartridges, 22 machetes, five battle axes, two knives, a pair of scissors, a lighter, assorted charms and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The police said all 147 suspects are in custody while investigations continue to determine their level of involvement in criminal activities.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for what he described as their professionalism and dedication.

He reaffirmed the command's commitment to sustaining Operation KO S'AYE across the state to rid Lagos of criminal elements and enhance public safety.

The police boss also appealed to residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information that would aid the identification of criminal hideouts and the arrest of offenders.

He assured members of the public that suspects found culpable at the end of investigations would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

CAPPA Backs FG’s Health Tax Policy, Seeks Higher Levy on Sugary Drinks

  The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has welcomed the Federal Government’s plan to channel excise-tax revenues from alcohol, tobacco, and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) into health financing, but urged authorities to raise the levy on sugary drinks to make it more effective. As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2025, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has raised concern over the growing dominance of ultra-processed foods in the country’s food system, warning that weak regulation and unchecked corporate influence are endangering public health. In a statement signed by CAPPA’s Media and Communication Officer, Robert Egbe, and released in Lagos on Thursday, the group said the government must urgently strengthen laws that protect citizens from deceptive marketing and unhealthy food products.
