IGP Disu, NFIU Strengthen Partnership Against Financial Crimes]
The Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) have pledged to deepen collaboration in tackling money laundering, terrorism financing and other financial crimes through enhanced intelligence sharing and joint operations.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NFIU, Hajia Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Bakari said the partnership between both agencies was critical to Nigeria's security architecture, noting that the 2027 Mutual Evaluation would assess how effectively the Police uses NFIU intelligence to investigate financial crimes and secure convictions.
She commended the Inspector-General for approving a joint stock-taking exercise between the two institutions and called for expanded Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) awareness across police commands nationwide.
She also stressed the need to institutionalise excellence in combating financial crimes and reaffirmed the NFIU's commitment to supporting the Police.
In response, IGP Disu described the partnership as vital to combating financial crimes, terrorism financing, banditry and other transnational offences.
He urged the NFIU to sustain specialised training for police personnel and provide continuous access to actionable financial intelligence and modern investigative tools to strengthen investigations and improve conviction rates.
