AIG Jimoh Bags West, Central Africa's Top Anti-Crime Policing Award

Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, has been named the Most Outstanding Anti-Crime Police Chief in West and Central Africa for 2025 in recognition of the crime-fighting strategies he introduced during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

The award, conferred by the Security Watch Africa Initiative Network at the 19th African Security Watch Awards in Banjul, The Gambia, was presented to Jimoh at his Lagos office by the organisation's International Coordinator, Patrick Apambu, and National Coordinator, Elizabeth Ndanku. 

The senior police officer was unable to attend the award ceremony in The Gambia due to official engagements.

Receiving the award, AIG Jimoh described the recognition as a tribute to the collective efforts of officers and personnel under his command. 

He attributed the success to initiatives such as the establishment of the Eko Strike Force, which expanded from two patrol vehicles to more than 18, complementing the operations of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). 

He also highlighted community policing and public cooperation as key factors in improving security across Lagos.

AIG Jimoh further cited the peaceful conduct of local government elections across the state's 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas during his tenure as evidence of effective policing. 

Presenting the award, Patrick Apambu described Jimoh as a disciplined and diligent officer who had served across several postings, including as Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) and Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Command, Eastern Ports, before his posting to Lagos.

He said the award recognised measurable improvements in crime prevention and closer police-community ties achieved under Jimoh's leadership in Lagos.

CAPPA Backs FG’s Health Tax Policy, Seeks Higher Levy on Sugary Drinks

  The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has welcomed the Federal Government’s plan to channel excise-tax revenues from alcohol, tobacco, and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) into health financing, but urged authorities to raise the levy on sugary drinks to make it more effective. At a national health-financing dialogue in Abuja, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed that a draft policy is being finalised to earmark revenues from “sin taxes” for healthcare.  The proposal will soon be submitted to the Minister of Health and Social Welfare. World Food Day: CAPPA Warns Against Corporate Capture of Nigeria’s Food System

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2025, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has raised concern over the growing dominance of ultra-processed foods in the country’s food system, warning that weak regulation and unchecked corporate influence are endangering public health. In a statement signed by CAPPA’s Media and Communication Officer, Robert Egbe, and released in Lagos on Thursday, the group said the government must urgently strengthen laws that protect citizens from deceptive marketing and unhealthy food products.
