Activists Back Police Probe, Seek Justice Over Killings of Prince Akinloye and Sheriff Salami in Ajiran

Civil rights activists have called for justice in the killings of Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye of Ajiran Community in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, urging the public to disregard what they described as attempts to discredit the police investigation into the case.

The group made the call during a solidarity visit to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, who, as Commissioner of Police in Lagos, supervised the investigation into the murders.

According to the activists, Salami was killed on April 18, 2023, while Akinloye, the first son of the Ojomu of Ajiranland, was murdered on August 26, 2024.

They alleged that some individuals were sponsoring a campaign of misinformation against AIG Jimoh and the Nigeria Police in an attempt to frustrate the prosecution of suspects linked to the killings.

The group said that after assuming office as Commissioner of Police on February 18, 2025, Jimoh approved an investigation following a petition submitted by Olarotimi Williams Chambers seeking the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the murders.

According to the activists, the investigation led to the arrest of two suspects who allegedly made confessional statements implicating themselves in the killings and identifying another individual as the alleged sponsor.

They further claimed that the investigation resulted in the declaration of Lagos businessman Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, also known as Ahmed Ajiran, as wanted by the police before he was later arrested in the Republic of Benin.

The activists alleged that attempts were made to influence the investigation, including efforts to pressure the former Lagos police commissioner to halt the prosecution.

Noting that the matter is already before a competent court, the group said it would refrain from commenting on the merits of the case but expressed confidence that justice would be served through the judicial process.

They described AIG Jimoh as a committed police officer who remained steadfast in the pursuit of justice and urged the public to ignore what they termed false narratives aimed at undermining the ongoing prosecution.

CAPPA Backs FG’s Health Tax Policy, Seeks Higher Levy on Sugary Drinks

  The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has welcomed the Federal Government’s plan to channel excise-tax revenues from alcohol, tobacco, and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) into health financing, but urged authorities to raise the levy on sugary drinks to make it more effective. World Food Day: CAPPA Warns Against Corporate Capture of Nigeria’s Food System

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2025, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has raised concern over the growing dominance of ultra-processed foods in the country’s food system, warning that weak regulation and unchecked corporate influence are endangering public health.
