Vice President Kashim Shettima and Governor Muhammed Nasir Idris

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s deep concern over the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, assuring families that the Federal Government will deploy every instrument of the state to secure their release and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Speaking in Birnin Kebbi during a sympathy visit to the state on the President’s directive, Shettima described the abduction of the students of the Government Girls’ Boarding School, Maga, as “an assault on the nation’s collective conscience.”

“President Tinubu is deeply troubled by this tragedy. He shares your anguish,” the Vice President said. “Our priority is clear: our daughters must return home safely. The government will not relent. Every instrument of the state will be used to ensure the perpetrators face the full weight of justice.”

The Vice President also extended the President’s condolences to the families of the late Brigadier-General Musa Uba and the late Vice Principal of the school, both of whom were killed during the attacks.

“To the family of the late Brigadier-General Uba, his sacrifice will never be forgotten. When a soldier gives his life in defence of the nation, a part of our collective soul is touched,” he stated.

Shettima pledged government support for the families affected by the tragedy and praised the efforts of the Kebbi State Government, community leaders, traditional rulers, vigilante groups and civil society organisations who have rallied in response to the incident.

He also commended security agencies for their ongoing operations. “Your courage and sacrifices remain the backbone of our nation’s security,” he said.

Responding, Governor Muhammed Nasir Idris expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s prompt intervention and continued communication with the state government since the incident occurred.

He said he remained optimistic that the abducted schoolgirls would soon be rescued.

“We are deeply touched by the support and actions taken so far. With the commitment shown by President Tinubu and the efforts on the ground, I am optimistic the girls will be rescued,” the governor said, reaffirming the state’s loyalty and cooperation with the Federal Government.

The Vice President was accompanied by senior government officials, including APC National Chairman, Prof Nantawe Yitwada; Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Umar Tafida; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Iman Suleiman Ibrahim; Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Bernard Fori; and others.
