Lagos APC Raises Concerns Over PDP Convention, Alleges Judicial Manipulation

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during its 2026 national convention, describing recent developments as a threat to democratic institutions and judicial integrity.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, the APC said the emergence of conflicting court orders from the Federal High Court in Abuja and the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan underscored what it termed the PDP’s deepening internal crisis and a pattern of reckless judicial forum shopping.

The party expressed concern that rival factions of the PDP had referenced different court rulings to validate their positions, a situation it said risked projecting the judiciary as inconsistent and vulnerable to political manipulation.

It warned that such actions could set a precedent capable of undermining public trust in the judicial process.

It said that the spectacle of contradictory court pronouncements being circulated by opposing factions raises serious questions about respect for due process, urging the National Judicial Council (NJC) to take steps to address the issue.

The Lagos APC also pointed to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) reported refusal to monitor the PDP convention, describing it as “an institutional vote of no confidence” in the validity of the exercise.

According to the statement, the developments highlight what the party called a decline in the PDP’s organisational coherence and adherence to democratic norms.

It accused the opposition party of “selectively obeying court orders” and contributing to what it described as a growing climate of institutional instability.

The ruling party maintained that, while internal party disputes are not unusual in democracies, the alleged manipulation of judicial processes poses broader implications for governance and rule of law.

The APC reiterated its commitment to upholding democratic institutions and lawful procedures, saying the country’s stability depends on political actors demonstrating respect for due process.

The statement also warned that actions capable of eroding public confidence in the judiciary could have long-term consequences for Nigeria’s democratic development.
