FG Places Security Agencies on Highest Alert After Recent Attacks

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris
The Federal Government has activated what it describes as the highest level of national security alert following renewed terrorist attacks and violent crimes in parts of the country.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced this on Wednesday at a press briefing in Abuja, stating that President Bola Tinubu has ordered an intensified nationwide security operation to track, neutralise, and dismantle terrorist and criminal networks.
Idris conveyed the President’s condolences to families affected by recent incidents, including the killing of a senior Army General, the abduction of students in Kebbi State, and an attack on a church in Kwara State, describing them as “painful reminders of the threats confronting the nation.”
He said President Tinubu has suspended his scheduled international engagements, including attendance at the G20 Summit in South Africa, to focus on domestic security challenges.
According to the Minister, additional military and police personnel have been deployed to Eruku and other parts of Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State to strengthen protection and ensure rapid response.
He also disclosed that Vice President Kashim Shettima is in Birnin Kebbi on the President’s directive, meeting with state authorities, security agencies, traditional rulers, and families of the abducted schoolgirls.
Idris reiterated that rescuing the Kebbi schoolgirls remains a national priority and assured Nigerians of ongoing coordinated operations aimed at their safe return.
He dismissed attempts to interpret the security situation through religious lenses, stressing that terrorism and banditry affect Nigerians across all faiths and communities.
The Minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s constitutional commitment to freedom of worship and urged citizens to avoid misinformation capable of causing division.
He appealed for national unity and public support for security agencies, expressing confidence that current operations would restore peace to affected communities.
