The Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed staff monitors to Anambra State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election to oversee police conduct across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The Commission’s Chairman and National Coordinator, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), said the deployment was part of efforts to ensure professionalism, impartiality, and discipline among police personnel during the polls.

Argungu warned officers assigned to election duties to uphold the highest standards of integrity, stressing that they must protect both electoral officials and materials, while creating a safe and conducive atmosphere for voters to freely exercise their franchise.

“Police officers on election duty must demonstrate fairness and professionalism. Any officer found compromising the rules of engagement will face appropriate sanctions", Argungu said.

He described the Anambra governorship election as a test case for the Nigeria Police Force as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Commending the Anambra State Police Command for its level of preparedness, Argungu noted the efforts of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, PhD, who has reportedly visited all Area Commands and identified flashpoints in the state to ensure adequate security coverage.

The PSC Chairman emphasized that the Commission would commend officers who perform their duties with professionalism and commitment, while those who engage in misconduct would be duly punished.

According to the statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, the PSC monitors will operate from the state capital, Awka, and across the three senatorial zones to ensure strict oversight and credible reporting of police activities during the election.
