Lagos Police Deny Defying Court Order on Nestoil Premises

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh

The Lagos State Police Command has denied reports claiming that the Commissioner of Police defied a court order relating to the Nestoil premises, describing the allegations as untrue, unfounded and mischievous.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebesi, the police said the publication and a related television interview misrepresented facts and attempted to cast aspersions on the neutrality of the Commissioner of Police.

According to the statement, the Command received the court order concerning the Nestoil property at about 5:50 p.m. on November 20, 2025. The order was immediately forwarded to the Police Legal Department for verification and confirmation from the issuing court.

“The response to the confirmation was received on the evening of November 21, 2025. Subsequent to this, all police personnel in the premises were withdrawn immediately in compliance with the court order,” the Command said.

The police expressed surprise that, despite complying with the directive, reports circulated suggesting that the Commissioner of Police had ignored the order.

The statement added that the Commissioner never visited the Nestoil premises on November 20 or 21.

Clarifying its role, the Command said the police do not have the authority to seal any premises, including that of Nestoil.

It explained that their legal responsibility is limited to providing protection to court sheriffs and other officials during the enforcement of court orders and maintaining peace throughout the process.

The police urged parties involved in the dispute to focus on their legal proceedings rather than dragging the Command into the controversy.

“The public is advised to disregard the report and the narrative from Nestoil as complete falsehood and misrepresentation of facts,” Adebesi said.

The Command reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law, obeying court orders, and ensuring that all police actions align with due process.
