Lagos APC to Atiku: Your Endless Party Hopping Shows You Are Unfit for National Leadership

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s decision to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is further proof that he lacks the ideological discipline, emotional stability, and political consistency required to lead a complex nation like Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the party said Atiku’s political record, spanning over two decades of crisscrossing five major political parties, shows a pattern of personal ambition overriding national interest.

“Atiku’s latest move is not about governance, service, or reform,” Oladejo said. “It is an unending search for a political platform that can accommodate his desperate ambition. Unfortunately, Nigerians have moved past that era.”

The APC noted that while other leaders are consolidating democratic institutions and contributing to national development, Atiku’s political trajectory remains marked by instability.

“He has built no party, strengthened no institution, and mentored no generation of political leaders,” the statement read. “Instead, what we see is a man in constant flight from any system that insists on order, cohesion, or internal discipline.”

According to the Lagos APC, Atiku’s defection once again proves that his loyalty is transactional and that he lacks the credibility to unify even his supporters, let alone the federation.

“At 80, what Nigerians expect from statesmen is reflection, contribution to national stability, and mentorship for the younger generation, not continuous political gambling,” Oladejo said.

Contrasting Atiku’s movement with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s governance approach, the APC said the country is currently on a path of economic rebuilding, security reforms, and diplomatic restoration, processes that require consistency and steady leadership.

“While President Tinubu is strengthening Nigeria’s institutions, Atiku is busy weakening every political platform he touches,” the party stated.

The APC urged Nigerians not to be distracted by “another round of political adventurism” from the former vice president, adding that the country has already chosen stability over chaos.

“Atiku’s political compass has lost direction,” the statement concluded. “Nigerians have moved on. It is time for him to do the same.”
