Normalcy has returned to Onosa community in the Elemoro area of Lagos State following a clash between residents and police officers in the early hours of Friday.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that six officers from the Elemoro Division, while on routine patrol, encountered an irate mob and fired shots to protect themselves.

Three persons sustained gunshot injuries in the incident and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a team of officers to the community shortly after the disturbance.

His intervention, according to the Command's PublicRelationsOffice, Benjamin Hundeyin, ensured the removal of barricades and restoration of free traffic flow along affected routes.

CP Jimoh also held peace talks with youth and community leaders in a bid to douse tension and has invited stakeholders for further dialogue to prevent a recurrence.

Meanwhile, the officers involved in the shooting have been taken into custody as investigations begin.

The Police Command assured residents that the inquiry will be “thorough and transparent.”

A strong police presence has since been maintained in the area to consolidate peace, while residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement authorities.
