Lagos Assembly, Guangxi People’s Congress Pledge Legislative, Economic Collaboration

The Lagos State House of Assembly and the Guangxi People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China have pledged to explore legislative and economic collaborations to boost investments in Lagos State.

This followed a courtesy visit on Monday by a Chinese delegation led by the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangxi People’s Congress, Zhang Xiaoqin, to the Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, at the Assembly Complex, Alausa, Ikeja.

Welcoming the delegation, Obasa described Lagos as Africa’s top investment destination with a population of over 20 million people and a vibrant economy.

He urged Chinese investors to look beyond tourism and expand into other key sectors of the state’s economy.

“Our state has a buoyant economy with great potential. Lagos is ready for more foreign investments, and the Assembly is open to collaborations that will enhance economic growth,” Obasa said.

The Speaker also cited ongoing partnerships with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in the construction of the Red and Blue Line rail projects as an example of fruitful cooperation between Lagos and China.

He assured that the Assembly is willing to strengthen ties through legislative exchange and knowledge sharing to promote good governance.

Responding, Zhang Xiaoqin said the visit aimed to deepen ties in legislation, trade, economy, and tourism.

He urged the Lagos Assembly to continue to support the welfare of Chinese citizens in Lagos.

“We look forward to enhancing collaboration in trade, economy, and tourism. Guangxi and Lagos both share the ocean as a natural advantage that can be developed to boost tourism,” he added.
