Nigeria Police Repatriates Wanted Chinese Gang Leader in Landmark INTERPOL Operation

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully repatriated a wanted Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, in what officials describe as a landmark international operation against transnational organized crime.

Qisheng, a gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for leading violent organized crimes, fled his country in 2024 after a warrant was issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County.

A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said Qisheng was tracked and arrested in Abuja on August 8, 2025, by operatives of INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja.

Following his arrest, the suspect was repatriated to Beijing on August 15 under police-to-police cooperation, coordinated by INTERPOL, in collaboration with NCB Beijing and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the development reaffirms Nigeria’s resolve to ensure the country does not become a safe haven for fugitives.

He stressed that the operation highlights the importance of international partnerships in tackling global crime networks.

“The arrest and repatriation of Dai Qisheng is a clear message to criminals worldwide that the Federal Republic of Nigeria will not be a hiding place for fugitives,” the IGP said.

Egbetokun said it will continue to strengthen intelligence sharing and operational collaborations with international law enforcement bodies to combat transnational crime.
