Silent Heroes Awards Initiative Commends MPB Chairman Over Pension Reforms
The Nigeria Silent Heroes Awards Initiative has praised the leadership of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), commending its chairman, Mikail Abdulraheem, for efforts aimed at improving the welfare of retired military personnel and reforming the military pensions system.
The commendation was made during a courtesy visit by the founder and convener of the Nigeria Silent Heroes Awards Initiative, Odita Sunday, and his team to formally invite the MPB chairman to the eighth edition of the awards ceremony scheduled to hold on June 27 in Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, Sunday lauded Abdulraheem's stewardship of the Military Pensions Board, noting that his leadership has brought positive changes to the administration of military pensions and enhanced the welfare of retirees.
He described the chairman's contributions as deserving of recognition, stressing that the award initiative was established to celebrate individuals whose efforts have significantly impacted society, often without public attention.
According to him, Abdulraheem's commitment to service and institutional reforms has improved the lives of many former military personnel and strengthened confidence in the pension management system.
Responding, Abdulraheem expressed gratitude for the recognition and stated that effective leadership should be measured by the positive impact it has on people and institutions rather than personal benefits.
He urged leaders across sectors to focus on building strong institutions, creating opportunities and delivering services that improve the lives of citizens.
The MPB chairman also noted that recognising selfless service helps promote integrity, accountability and national development, while encouraging others to contribute meaningfully to society.
He further emphasised the importance of highlighting exemplary leaders and role models whose achievements can inspire younger generations and foster a stronger culture of service and patriotism.
The 2026 edition of the Nigeria Silent Heroes Awards, themed "Invisible Lights, Illuminating Lives," is expected to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to national development and community service through dedicated and often uncelebrated efforts.
Also present at the meeting were senior officials of the Military Pensions Board, including directors from the Air Force Pensions Department, Finance and Accounts Department, the Army Pension Scheme, the Computer Department, and other top officers of the board.
