Lagos Police Arrest Suspects, Recover Military Uniforms, Drugs, 14 Firearms in June Operations

The Lagos State Police Command says it has recorded major operational successes in the fight against crime, with the arrest of several suspects and recovery of firearms, ammunition, illicit substances, stolen items and other criminal exhibits in June.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command's headquarters in Ikeja.

He said the Command remains committed to intelligence-led policing, crime prevention and protection of lives and property.

Among the items recovered during the period were 14 firearms, four live cartridges, 51 mobile phones, two vehicle engine control units, an operational motorcycle, a diesel truck loaded with military camouflage uniforms, suspected illicit substances and vandalised electrical cables.

CP Fatai said two suspected cable vandals, Ikenegboge Godwin, 23, and Aondoaka Jacob, 23, were arrested while allegedly vandalising electric cables on the Third Mainland Bridge.

He said the command also arrested three suspects linked to alleged stealing of iron rods from a church construction site in Ayetoro-Ijanikin and recovered two double-barrel guns and six locally made single-barrel guns.

In another operation, the Lagos Police boss said officers arrested a suspected member of a “one chance” robbery syndicate and recovered 51 mobile phones suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.

A suspect, Ahmed Saheed, was also arrested in Festac Town with two vehicle engine control units suspected to have been stolen.

He disclosed that two suspects arrested along Ilupeju Bye-pass were found with firearms, including a cut-to-size locally made pistol, an English Brownie pistol and four live cartridges.

CP Fatai noted that a suspected armed robber, Falalu Mustapha, was arrested following an investigation into robbery activities around Ipaja, leading to the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol and a motorcycle allegedly used for operations.

Police also arrested two suspected fake soldiers, Mercy Odundo and Joshua Ayomide, and recovered a pump action gun after an intelligence-led operation.

The Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested three suspects and recovered a MAN diesel truck loaded with 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances.

Police said investigation is ongoing to determine the source and intended recipients of the recovered items.

The Command also announced the arrest of suspected cult members linked to the Eiye and Alora confraternities, with firearms recovered during operations.

In a separate operation, 38 foreign nationals were rescued from possible mob action in Epe, with the police saying investigations revealed some entered Nigeria illegally.

The Command further arrested individuals accused of impersonation, including a suspect found wearing Nigeria Navy insignia and another who allegedly falsely claimed to be a serving soldier.

CP Fatai reassured residents that there would be no safe haven for criminals in Lagos State.

He urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support crime prevention and effective law enforcement.
