Police Arrest Four Suspected Cultists, Recover Firearms in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists and alleged hitmen linked to a series of violent crimes and killings in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo Local Government Area, and its surrounding communities.

The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Nwokolo, also known as "Oblo" (35), Ayola Israel, alias "Essy Pawpaw" (39), Ebuka Nnamdi (31), and Chinedu Okafor (22), were apprehended by police operatives at a hotel in Ajanmgbadi following credible intelligence.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, preliminary investigations uncovered evidence allegedly linking the suspects to several violent criminal activities in the area.

SP Adebisi disclosed that a video recovered from one of the suspects' mobile phones allegedly showed the killing of unidentified persons in Ajanmgbadi and neighbouring communities.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the notorious Aiye Confraternity and admitted involvement in a series of killings and other violent crimes that had terrorised residents.

Further searches conducted by operatives led to the recovery of three firearms, including two locally fabricated pistols and a revolver pistol, as well as 13 live cartridges believed to have been used in criminal operations.

The command said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects' involvement in other criminal activities, identify additional gang members, and arrest other accomplices still at large.

The suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the operatives for the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command's commitment to combating cultism, violent crimes, and other criminal activities across the state.

He assured residents that the police would continue efforts to rid Lagos of criminal elements threatening public safety and bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.

The commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and law enforcement efforts.
