LASTMA Rescues Hit-and-Run Victim, Facilitates Emergency Evacuation on Lekki-Epe Expressway
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued a female victim who sustained serious injuries in a hit-and-run accident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway and facilitated her prompt evacuation for medical treatment.
The incident occurred at EFF Bus Stop inward Marwa on the busy expressway when an unidentified motorist allegedly knocked down the woman and fled the scene, leaving her injured and unattended.
According to a statement issued by LASTMA's Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, officers on traffic monitoring and control duty in the area quickly responded to the emergency after discovering the victim, who suffered fractures to her arm and leg.
The traffic officials immediately secured the accident scene, removed the victim from further danger and alerted the Lagos State Ambulance Service while implementing traffic management measures to prevent secondary accidents and maintain the free flow of vehicles along the corridor.
The agency said officials of LASAMBUS arrived promptly and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital Odan for urgent medical attention and comprehensive treatment.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed concern over the increasing incidence of hit-and-run cases on Lagos roads.
He described the act of abandoning accident victims as both morally unacceptable and a violation of the law, stressing that motorists have a responsibility to preserve human life and render assistance when accidents occur.
Bakare-Oki reaffirmed the agency's commitment to protecting lives and property through proactive traffic management and rapid emergency response interventions across the state.
He also commended the collaboration between LASTMA personnel and LASAMBUS officials, noting that their coordinated efforts were instrumental in ensuring the victim received timely medical attention while normal traffic conditions were swiftly restored.
The agency urged motorists to drive responsibly, obey traffic regulations and promptly report road accidents and emergencies through designated channels to enable quick intervention by relevant authorities.
LASTMA reiterated its commitment to improving road safety and emergency response services as part of efforts to safeguard road users across Lagos State.
