IGP Disu Charges Senior Officers to Drive Police Reforms, Embrace Innovation


The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called on senior police officers to embrace innovation, strengthen professionalism and take an active role in advancing ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.

Disu made the call while declaring closed the Operational Change and Leadership (OCL) Course for Superintendents and Chief Superintendents of Police at the Nigeria Police Institute, Jabi, Abuja.

Addressing participants at the end of the five-day programme on Friday, the Inspector-General stressed that modern policing requires leaders who are adaptable, accountable, technologically driven and capable of responding effectively to emerging security challenges and evolving public expectations.

He urged the officers to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to improve leadership practices, operational efficiency, professionalism, respect for human rights and service delivery within their various commands and formations.

According to the IGP, participants should serve as agents of positive change by promoting intelligence-led policing, evidence-based decision-making and the use of technology in crime prevention and law enforcement.

Also speaking at the event, the Coordinator of the Police Reform Secretariat and Director-General of the National Institute of Police Studies (NIPS), Olu Ogunsakin, described police reform as a continuous process that requires committed leadership and a readiness to embrace change.

He explained that the course was designed to equip officers with the skills, knowledge and mindset needed to strengthen accountability, enhance operational performance and support institutional transformation across the force.

Disu also expressed gratitude to the Government of Germany, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the GS Foundation, the CLEEN Foundation, the Police Reform Secretariat and other development partners for their continued support for police reform, leadership development and institutional capacity building.

The Inspector-General reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building a professional, accountable, intelligence-led and citizen-focused institution through sustained training, capacity development and the implementation of reform initiatives aimed at improving public trust and service delivery.

The Operational Change and Leadership Course forms part of broader efforts by the police leadership to modernise policing practices and enhance the effectiveness of officers in addressing contemporary security challenges across the country.
