Delta Police Arrest Four Suspected Gun Runners Linked to Effurun Firearm Case
The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate allegedly linked to the recovery of a Beretta pistol at a transport park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, on May 1, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Asaba, stating that the arrests followed weeks of intelligence-led investigations and coordinated operations across Bayelsa and Imo states.
According to the commissioner, the suspects were identified as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill and Amadi Felix Chibuike.
CP Oyeniyi said investigators traced the firearm recovered in Effurun to Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, who was arrested in Bayelsa State on May 4, 2026, alongside a friend and roommate whose phone was allegedly used in communications relating to the purchase of the weapon.
He said during interrogation, Chukwuemeka reportedly confessed to purchasing the firearm from Amadi Princewill for N290,000 before reselling it to a suspect identified simply as Desmond, who remains at large, for N380,000.
CP Oyeniyi said preliminary investigations revealed that Desmond subsequently arranged for the firearm to be transported to Effurun and allegedly contacted Oghenemine Ogidi, now deceased, to collect it and forward it to Sapele.
He added that following Chukwuemeka's confession, operatives tracked and arrested Amadi Princewill in Imo State on May 15.
He said further interrogation reportedly led investigators to another suspect, Amadi Felix Chibuike, who was arrested in Owerri on May 16.
According to him, Princewill confessed that he had obtained the firearm from Amadi Felix for N200,000.
The Delta State Police Commissioner alleged that all the suspects are members of the Black Axe Confraternity and are believed to be involved in an illegal firearms distribution network.
He said investigations are continuing to uncover the full extent of the syndicate's operations and identify additional suspects connected to the case.
CP Oyeniyi also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend Desmond and other fleeing members of the network.
He said the suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
