FCID Smashes Criminal Networks, Recovers Guns, Stolen Asset, Counterfeit Goods in Lagos
The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against criminal activities, with the arrest of suspected telecom infrastructure vandals, recovery of firearms, stolen items, vehicles and seizure of counterfeit products.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), FCID Annex, Lagos, Simeon Akpanudom, disclosed this during a press briefing on the operational achievements of the department between March 30 and June 25, 2026.
Akpanudom said the command remained committed to protecting critical national infrastructure, tackling economic sabotage and ensuring that criminal elements face justice.
He revealed that operatives arrested three suspected members of a syndicate involved in vandalising telecommunication facilities in Ayobo, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos.
The suspects — Ezekiel Omoloye, 46; Olaoluwa Shuwunmi, 44; and Olaleye Kehinde, 41 — were arrested following intelligence-led operations carried out on June 19.
Recovered from the suspects were a locally-made pistol, live cartridge, solar batteries, solar modules, cable cutters, iron cutters, ropes, tricycles and vehicles allegedly linked to the vandalism operations.
The AIG said preliminary investigations showed that the recovered equipment was being used to destroy telecommunications installations and other critical infrastructure across Lagos State.
In another breakthrough, the FCID uncovered a suspected counterfeiting operation involving a popular baby care product.
Akpanudom said investigators recovered 331 cartons of fake “Baby Secret Cream” from a warehouse at Trade Fair Market, Lagos, following a petition by the original manufacturer.
He added that some suspected dealers had been arrested and were assisting investigators in tracking other members of the syndicate and the alleged mastermind.
The police also disclosed the arrest of two suspects over alleged obtaining money by false pretence, conspiracy, cheating and illegal procurement of abortion.
The case followed a complaint by a man who alleged that his fiancée obtained N16.17 million from him under the guise of pregnancy-related expenses.
According to the AIG, investigation revealed that the pregnancy was allegedly terminated at a medical facility in Ajah, Lagos, leading to the arrest of the woman and a nurse.
Both suspects have been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the medical director allegedly linked to the incident.
The FCID boss also disclosed that the department received 1,762 complaints within the period under review, with 56 cases concluded and processed for prosecution.
He added that INTERPOL operations led to the rescue of 45 victims of human trafficking, arrest of four suspects, and recovery of persons wanted on international watch lists.
Akpanudom assured Nigerians that the FCID would continue to strengthen investigations, protect citizens and collaborate with relevant agencies to combat crime.
