Fadipe: Utilising Dancing as Tool For Balance Living
The art of dancing and the Africans are very intertwined in the sense that it would be difficult to divorce one from the other; hence dancing remains an integral part of the African culture and tradition.
Recently, Mrs. Olubukola Fadipe, a Lagos-based professional stage dancer, called on Nigerians to imbibe the culture of dancing as a means of fighting off the pangs of hardship in the country.
Fadipe stated this in Lagos recently at a forum organized by a Lagos-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) called Let’s Connect Forum (LCF) for some group of residents of the state in Ikeja.
Addressing those present at the venue of the occasion, Fadipe stated that the call is premised on the fact that dancing which is often underestimated by the public has some therapeutic value to mental wellness which should not be discountenanced.
According to her, the current economic and social reality in the country seems quite challenging to Nigerians thus making it imperative for people to device means of making themselves happy at all times.
“Listening to music and dancing are what we need at these times considering the situation of things in the country caused by the current economic situation which have combined to make life more difficult for people. I am recommending this because of their therapeutic value to the body and soul and to the purse.
Since her foray some years ago, the age old notion that anything financially meaningful and rewarding can come from taking into dancing as a form of vocational endeavour is waning.
Fadipe has been setting the positive pace and redefining dance, getting the right accolades from the right quarters both at home and abroad winning many awards along the way. With her numerous strides in the dancehall, Fadipe is steadily working towards surpassing the accomplishments of pioneers in the profession such as Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau who is popularly known as Kaffy.
Commenting on her numerous accomplishments, she said, “Dancing, for me dancing is a passion and working to make a living from what I am passionate about is indeed a rewarding pastime for me.
“Though not yet there, I am aiming to rework dancing by making Nigerians realize the value of dance to humanity and I am working towards discovering and nurturing future talents and the will eventually put the country on global map,” she said.
Fadipe is on top of her talent in various dance styles - Nigerian and International such as Apala, Traditional Stage Dances, Salsa, Tap Dance Reggae etc.
