Oluwafunmilola Mutiat Disu has formally assumed office as the 23rd Indigenous President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), unveiling a five-point reform agenda aimed at strengthening welfare, unity and empowerment within the association.
Speaking during her inauguration ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, Mrs Disu described POWA as “the backbone behind the badge,” highlighting the vital support police families provide to officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
She expressed gratitude to God and members of the association for the opportunity to serve, noting that her leadership would be anchored on humility, teamwork and service.
Mrs Disu also paid tribute to her predecessor, Elizabeth Egbetokun, commending her tenure for expanding welfare initiatives, empowerment programmes and educational support for members.
According to her, the new administration will focus on five strategic priorities: strengthening mental and emotional health support for members; expanding economic empowerment through skill acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes; promoting education and youth development through scholarships and mentorship initiatives; fostering national unity and inclusion across commands; and improving welfare systems to ensure members and their families receive support when needed.
She emphasised that POWA goes beyond a social association, describing it as a strong support network for police families facing the demands of service.
“We are the silent strength behind the uniform. While our spouses protect the nation, we hold the family together and nurture the next generation,” she said.
Mrs Disu pledged to build sustainable structures within the association and called on members to actively contribute to the growth and success of POWA.
Her administration’s guiding slogan, she announced, will be “United in Strength, Empowered for Impact.”
She expressed confidence that with collective commitment, the association would continue to grow as a platform for support, empowerment and transformation for police families across Nigeria.
