Akpanudom Assumes Duty as 56th AIG in Charge of FCID Annex Lagos
A new Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Simeon U. Akpanudom, has assumed duty as the 56th AIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.
His assumption of office, which took effect on Monday, marks a leadership transition at the department following the elevation of his predecessor, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the position of Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
Disu, who served as the 55th AIG of the FCID Annex, was recently appointed IGP by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and confirmed by the Nigerian Police Council as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Akpanudom, a seasoned officer, was born on August 4, 1967, in Ukana Ikot Ntuen, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
Prior to his new appointment, he served as Commissioner of Police in charge of the Anti-Fraud Section at the FCID Annex, Lagos, where he was credited with strengthening investigative capacity and tackling financial crimes.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Calabar, an Advanced Certificate in Industrial Safety and Control from the University of Port Harcourt, and a Master’s degree in Security and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.
Akpanudom has also attended several professional courses, including the Strategic Leadership Command Course and the Higher Defence Management Course at the National Defence College, Abuja.
Over the course of his career, he has held various operational, investigative, and administrative positions across the police force, and participated in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, where he earned international recognition.
His service record includes several honours, among them the Inspector-General of Police Commendation (Sword of Honour) as Best All-Round Cadet of ASP Course 17/1992, as well as the United Nations Medal.
A Fellow of the Defence College, Akpanudom is also affiliated with professional bodies including the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
In his remarks, the new AIG assured the public of the department’s commitment to professionalism, thorough investigation of cases, and improved service delivery.
He pledged to strengthen collaboration with relevant agencies and stakeholders, while upholding accountability, transparency, and respect for human rights.
Akpanudom also emphasised plans to enhance the capacity of detectives through training and the adoption of technology to improve digital investigation processes.
He called on members of the public to remain law-abiding and support the police with credible information, stressing that collective efforts are essential in tackling crime and enhancing national security.
