LAGOS NYSC PASSING OUT PARADE   The National Youths Service Corps in Lagos has withheld the certificates of six corps members that served in the state.   The State Director of the NYSC, Oladipupo Laniyan said the affected corps members are to face disciplinary committee for various offences committed during the course of service.   Laniyan who made this known at the passing out parade of the Batch B at the NYSC Iyana Ipaja Orientation Camp appealed to Governor Babatunde Fashola to fast track the relocation of the Orientation Camp to Ikorodu.   Fashola in his remarks promised that the state government would ensure improved security around the corps members in the face of recurring kidnapping of their colleagues in the country.   Correspondent Sulaymon Abdulkareem reports that two of the outgoing corps members got Governor’s Award while seven others received Certificates of Merit .   

The Poultry Association of Nigeria has warned that the prices of poultry products would increase this year because of rising cost of raw materials, especially grains. The South-West Chairman of the association, Doctor AYOOLA ODUNTAN told newsmen in Lagos that price of poultry feed would continue to rise if the government does not intervene. He urged the Federal Government to temporarily suspend the sale of grains and legumes to neigbouring countries in order to meet local demand.

Some students and workers in Lagos today stayed at home thinking that the day had been declared as a public holiday to celebrate the June twelve, nineteen ninety three presidential election. A Cross-Section who spoke with our correspondent blamed the government for not coming out clearly enough that it was not a work-free day. Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Ekiti State governments declared the day as a public holiday to mark the June twelve anniversary.

Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso says it was the wish of the PDP to have his Lagos State counterpart, Babatunde Fashola run under the party’s platform in last governorship elections. Kwankwaso who made this known during a courtesy call on Fashola at the Ikeja Lagos House in Alausa said his administration has resolved to kick start a rebirth and economic partnership in Kano State. He said his visit was meant to see how to develop the two states and make the country a better place. Fashola in his response emphasised the need for each state of the federation to develop strategies on building the nation, adding the visit was key to both states as they share the challenge of rapid urbanization.

The Lagos State Government has demanded for the immediate evacuation of vehicles parked along the Airport Road in Ikeja, Lagos, South West Nigeria. Most of the affected vehicles belong to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, as well as car dealers and military personnel. Governor BABATUNDE FASHOLA gave the order when he paid an unscheduled visit to the area. He said the traffic situation along the Airport Road has become a major source of concern to the state, especially as it affects security. Meanwhile, Governor FASHOLA has sworn-in five new permanent secretaries in the civil service of Lagos State. While perfuming the ceremony today, the governor urged them to see their appointments as a call to serve.

The Lagos State Government has approved the appointment of as the ninth Rector of the State Polytechnic, Ikorodu. Lawal whose appointment took effect on June 1st this year, has won many awards and prizes was the Director of the Institution’s School of Part Time Studies. He holds a 1984 first class degree in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master of Science (Management) and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Business Administration from the University of Lagos. Dr. Lawal, 50, from Lagos Island, joined the services of the Polytechnic in 1985 as a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration in 1985 and rose through the ranks to the position of Chief Lecturer in December 2007. Aside also being lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar in 2009, the Rector is also member of Academy of Management Nigeria and the Nigerian Institute of Management and has authored or co-authored books and papers in reputable professional journals. The Lagos State Government says the Law against child abuse is still in force in the state. the state Deputy Governor, ADEJOKE ORELOPE-ADEFULIRE, told a delegation of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria in her office today that that the government would intensity its enforcement of the law in order to arrest those in the habit of abusing the right of a child. She said the state government frowns at having minors and under-age children as domestic staff and servants, saying that it is disheartening that the women, who ordinarily should be the care-givers are the major culprits. Mrs Adefulire said the ‘yellow and red-card’ enforcement policy of the government will be intensified, while advising the women to desist from such acts, adding ‘it is not only against the law but also morally wrong’.   She advised the women to encourage their domestic staff to take some formal education, since education is free in the State, or acquire a skill at any of the 17 skill acquisition ...
