Lagos APC Says E-Registration Is Mandatory, Key to Party Reform

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise is mandatory, describing it as a critical reform aimed at strengthening party discipline, internal democracy and electoral competitiveness.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party said the e-registration exercise, which began this week and will run until the end of January, provides an opportunity for both existing and new members to be captured in a comprehensive digital membership register.

The Lagos APC said the initiative reflects the party’s resolve to embrace modern political organisation, improve data integrity and eliminate practices that undermine cohesion, including duplication, impersonation and unverified membership.

According to the party, the digital registration will ensure that all members are properly identified and accounted for, creating a credible and transparent database necessary for effective party administration.

It added that the exercise would also promote fairness by giving all members, regardless of status, equal recognition within the party structure.

The APC noted that a reliable digital register is essential for conducting credible congresses, transparent primaries and legitimate leadership selection, stressing that internal democracy cannot thrive without an accurate and verifiable membership list.

The party further described the e-registration as a strategic tool for mobilisation, particularly among youths, professionals and first-time political participants who value efficiency and clarity.

It said the adoption of technology demonstrates the party’s readiness to align with evolving democratic practices.

The Lagos APC also stated that a data-driven membership system would enhance grassroots coordination, strengthen campaign planning and improve engagement with party supporters ahead of future elections.

Urging members and stakeholders to participate fully in the exercise, the party said registration is a collective responsibility and warned that indifference could undermine the party’s progressive ideals.

The statement, signed by the Lagos State APC Spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to continuous reform, expansion and leadership, adding that the e-registration exercise underscores the APC’s determination to build a stronger and future-ready political institution.
