CRAN Congratulates Olatunji Ridwan Disu on Appointment as IGP

The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has congratulated the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Ridwan Disu, following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement signed by its President, Olalekan Olabulo, the association described the appointment as strategic and well-considered, anchored on merit, competence and proven performance.

CRAN noted that the decision reflects confidence in IGP Disu’s professionalism, integrity and leadership capacity, especially at a time when the country requires strengthened policing and enhanced internal security.

The association highlighted Disu’s distinguished career, citing his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, where he implemented proactive, intelligence-driven crime-fighting strategies that improved public safety and operational responsiveness.

It also referenced his leadership of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), where he coordinated complex and sensitive operations with tactical precision, as well as his service as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to CRAN, his role as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, further demonstrated his administrative competence, commitment to discipline and dedication to professional standards within the Force.

The association added that Disu’s participation in specialised training programmes, both locally and internationally, in areas such as small arms smuggling, internet fraud, forensic investigations and strategic leadership, has equipped him to address evolving security threats including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cybercrime and organised criminal networks.

At what it described as a critical period in Nigeria’s security landscape, CRAN expressed optimism that the new IGP would prioritise intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration, improved officers’ welfare and discipline, deployment of modern technology, and strict adherence to the rule of law and human rights.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement and professional partnership with the Nigeria Police Force in the collective pursuit of peace, safety and national stability.
