APC Praises Lagos Two-Decade Security Model as National Benchmark
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared the Lagos Security Vision, developed and sustained over two decades of progressive governance, as the country’s leading model for sub-national security.
In a statement by its spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo on Friday, the party said Lagos has continued to demonstrate that security is achieved through deliberate planning, strategic investment and consistent political will, not rhetoric.
It noted that despite being Nigeria’s most densely populated and economically active state, Lagos has maintained relative peace, stability and social harmony.
According to the party, successive administrations, from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have entrenched a layered security architecture built on intelligence, technology, community engagement and strong inter-agency cooperation.
The APC outlined the key pillars of the Lagos Security Vision, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), which it described as the most effective sub-national security funding model in the country.
It said public-private partnerships have enabled the state to continually equip security agencies with operational tools and logistics.
The party added that Lagos has expanded its intelligence-driven policing capabilities through surveillance cameras, digital crime-mapping systems and early-warning technology under Governor Sanwo-Olu.
“Community institutions and civil society groups have also been integrated into a harmonised grassroots security network that strengthens trust and improves intelligence gathering”, the ruling party said.
It further highlighted Lagos’ inter-agency collaboration involving the Police, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency, LASTMA, FRSC, the military, Civil Defence Corps and federal intelligence units, resulting in faster response and fewer operational overlaps.
Lagos’ investment in emergency response through the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) was also cited as a model for other states, with the APC noting that the agency has developed world-class capacity to manage disasters and large-scale emergencies.
The party stressed that the state’s security stability is rooted in continuity of governance, with each administration building on the foundations laid by its predecessor.
This consistency, it said, places Lagos ahead of others as the country moves closer to the establishment of state police.
The APC attributed the successes to the “visionary leadership” of President Bola Tinubu, who initiated the security blueprint as governor, and Governor Sanwo-Olu, who has expanded and modernised it.
While criticising opposition figures for allegedly attempting to politicise national insecurity, the party said Lagos has demonstrated that determined sub-national leadership can shape local security outcomes through sustained planning and partnership.
“The Lagos model is proof that synergy between federal resolve and sub-national preparedness works,” the statement read, urging other states to study and adapt it to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
