President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the names of two nominees to the Senate for confirmation as chief executives of Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory agencies following the resignation of their incumbent heads.
In a statement by his Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday, the President said the nominations followed the exit of Engineer Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Ahmed and Komolafe were appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari to head the two agencies established under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
President Tinubu has nominated Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as Chief Executive Officer of the NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as Chief Executive Officer of the NMDPRA, and requested the Senate to expedite their confirmation.
Eyesan is a former Executive Vice President, Upstream, at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), where she spent nearly 33 years.
She also served as Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy, between 2019 and 2023.
She is a graduate of Economics from the University of Benin.
Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed, a Chemical Engineering graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, was born in 1957 in Gombe State.
He has held several leadership positions in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, including Managing Director of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Nigerian Gas Company.
He has also served as Group Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power Directorate, where he contributed to major policy frameworks such as the Gas Masterplan, Gas Network Code and the Petroleum Industry Act.
Mohammed has played key roles in projects including the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline Expansion and the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline.
