The Nigeria Police Force has announced the rescue of two kidnapped victims, the arrest of eight suspects, and the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition in a series of intelligence-led operations across Edo, Delta, Katsina, and Adamawa states.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, these operations were conducted under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing.
In Edo State, police operatives working with local vigilantes stormed a kidnappers’ hideout in Ewatto, leading to the rescue of Godday Irieude and Wisdom Emeka, abducted from their farm on June 26. The kidnappers fled after a gun battle, some sustaining gunshot wounds.
In Delta State, a raid on suspected cultists in Mosogar uncovered a fabricated Baretta pistol, locally made guns, live cartridges, phones, and fetish items. Four members of the Aiye Confraternity were arrested. Separately, two suspects nabbed in Okpanam were found with two English-made single-barrel guns and 110 live cartridges, linked to illegal arms trade.
Meanwhile, in Katsina, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) arrested Yunusa Ishaku with two stolen vehicles. He confessed to being part of a syndicate ferrying stolen cars to Niger Republic, revealing locations of more vehicles in Zamfara and Bauchi. In Adamawa, a 52-year-old man was apprehended with AK-47 rifles, magazines, and over 100 rounds of ammunition.
ACP Adejobi said all suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
