WAEC Debunks Viral Report on Cancellation of 2025 WASSCE
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has debunked claims circulating on social media that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates has been cancelled.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC Nigeria, Moyosola Adesina, the Council described the report as false, misleading, and the work of mischief-makers attempting to discredit WAEC and cause unnecessary panic among candidates and stakeholders.
The fake report, dated July 19, alleged that the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC jointly cancelled the entire examination over widespread malpractice and digital leakage of exam materials.
WAEC, however, dismissed the claim, stating that the marking of examination scripts has already been concluded and that results will be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.
“All information from the Council is shared via our official and verified social media handles, as well as through accredited media outlets,” the statement emphasized.
The Council urged the public to disregard the false report and remain calm, assuring that all official communications will continue to come from the Public Affairs Department, signed on behalf of the Head of National Office.
