Police Recover AK-47 Rifle, Suspected Stolen Motorcycle in Nasarawa
The Nasarawa State Police Command has recorded a major security success following the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, live ammunition, and a suspected stolen motorcycle in the Giza area of Keana Local Government.
According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the operation was conducted on June 7, 2025, after the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, received credible intelligence about the movement of a suspected criminal transporting illegal arms.
Acting on the intelligence, police operatives from the Giza Division mounted a strategic stop-and-search operation along the Giza–Kadarko Road. During the exercise, officers attempted to intercept a man riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle. The suspect, upon sighting the police, abandoned the motorcycle and fled into the surrounding bush.
A search of the abandoned motorcycle led to the recovery of: One AK-47 rifle (Breach No. 0413), two magazines, forty-five rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition.
Police authorities believe the recovered items are linked to criminal activities in the region. Efforts are currently underway to locate and arrest the fleeing suspect, as well as trace the source and intended use of the recovered firearm.
“The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state,” said SP Nansel. “We are urging members of the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.”
The recovery comes at a time of heightened concern over arms proliferation and rural insecurity in parts of Nasarawa and neighboring states. Security experts have commended the swift response of the police, describing it as a proactive step toward disrupting criminal networks.
Residents in the Giza–Kadarko corridor have also been advised to cooperate with law enforcement efforts as investigations continue.
