Lagos tasks NPA and NIMASA on removal of over two hundred wrecked vessels along coast line

The Lagos State Government has accused the Nigeria Port Authority and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency of frustrating its efforts at removing the over two hundred wrecked and abandoned vessels along the state coast line.

The state commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development ADESEGUN ONIRU at a news conference in Alausa said President JONATHAN is yet to fulfill the promise he made in 2011 to release funds to the state to address problems associated with ocean surge and removal of the abandoned vessels.

ONIRU said the federal government has not released any fund to the state government from the Ecological funds to address the coast line challenges facing Lagos.

The commissioner wondered why officials of NIMASA have continued to attack state officials deployed to remove some of the wrecked vessels even when it has refused to address the issue.

He noted that the state is yet to receive feedback on several letters written to the federal government on the issue.
