Troops of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army involved in Exercise Crocodile Smile in the Niger Delta have discovered and destroyed 52 illegal refineries and refinery cooking pots in Krakrama, Bille and Better land community general area in Rivers State. Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman said in a statement that the troops discovered 6 refining cooking pots at Better Land community which unfortunately could not be destroyed instantly because of proximity to the community. He said they also recovered two high powered Engine boats, 10 empty drums and one pumping machine. Plans for destroying the illegal refinery with Swamp Buggy is in progress. Also the troops in an anti-cultism operation cleared a notorious kidnappers camp at Obiozumini near  Obite  in Ogbema/Ndoni/Egbema Local Government Area of Rivers State. The troops who were earlier ambushed engaged and subdued the kidnappers. One kidnap victim was rescued from the camp.

TROOPS RENDER FREE MEDICAL SERVICES TO COMMUNITIES IN RIVERS AND BAYELSA STATES

As part of activities lined up for the  field training exercise, nicknamed “Operation CROCODILE SMILE”, troops of 2 Brigade, 82 Division,  Nigerian Army have touched the lives of over 500 people within Bille Community in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State with free medical outreach. Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman said in a statement that the free medical services featured consultation, diagnosis and eye care, blood pressure checks, free drugs, blood tests and counselling services. The statement said a similar exercise was held at Nembe Ogbolomabiri and Bassambiri, Bayelsa  State on Saturday with impressive turnout. TROOPS RAID CREEK, PROVIDES HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE IN NIGER DELTA

The  troops of 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army's  field training exercise nicknamed Operation Crocodile Smile in the Niger Delta has entered day four. The troops were involved in a number of activities including humanitarian assistance through free medical outreach, show of force, patrols and raids in the creeks.  Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman said in a statement that the troops with help of Nigerian Navy helicopters, their speed and gunboats, carried out raid on suspected oil bunkerer and militant camps at Afiagbene, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State. He said they discovered two generators, one locally made double barrel gun, one dane gun, three live cartridges, two Pumping machines, one 32 inches LG Television, one Kenwood amplifier and 4 X 50 Litres of liquid suspected to be crude oil at Ayakoromo junction.

LAGOS STATE TASK FORCE IMPOUNDS 98 MOTORCYCLES AT MILE 2 AND FESTAC AREA

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit has impounded ninety-eight motorcycles including tricycles at Rainbow bus stop near Mile Two and FESTAC Town. Chairman of the Task Force, Olayinka Egbeyemi said the operations was carried out based on persistence petitions from members of the public about criminal activities perpetrated by some operators. He said residents living around these areas complaints that criminals use both motorcycles and tricycles to dislodged them of their valuables during day-time and at night. He said the task force would continue to impound and arrest those who are violating government policy on restricted routes across the state. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Motorcycles Riders and Owners Association of Lagos State, Sulaimon Adesina said the association is ready to partner with the state in getting rid of notorious motorcycles operators. LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT GIVES 14-DAY ULTIMATUM TO OWNERS OF ILLEGAL STRUCTURES, SHANTIES, STREET HAWKERS IN IKOYI, VICTORIAL ISLAND AND LEKKI

The Lagos State Government has issued a fourteen-day ultimatum to all owners of illegal structures, shanties, street hawkers and those who have converted walkways into trading points and food courts in Ikoyi, Victoria Island and the Lagoon Front of Lekki to remove such structures. The State Government also warned that if such illegal structures are not removed after the fourteen days grace, the State Special Task Force on the Clean Up of the areas would move in to enforce the order. The Secretary to the State Government, Tunji Bello said in a statement that owners of all abandoned buildings in different areas of Ikoyi, Lekki and Victoria Island which are now harbouring prostitutes, illegal miscreants and unwanted elements must clear the structures of such undesirable elements immediately. POLICE IN LAGOS ARREST CHAIRMAN OF PICKPOCKETS IN OSHODI, 21 OTHER HOODLUMS

Operatives of Rapid Response Squad of Lagos State Police Command have arrested a self-acclaimed Chairman of pickpockets in Oshodi, Ibrahim Kasali, and 20 other suspects alleged to be involved in stealing and robbing innocent members of public in the area. The suspects were arrested after the operatives raided Mosafejo, Bolade, Oshodi Oke and Oshodi Under Bridge. The hoodlums and social miscreants were raided while waiting for early rush to pickpocket passers-by and passengers. Ibrahim Kasali, who is popularly known as Ibrahim Babangida of Oshodi, was arrested during the operation while being chased by passengers of a bus which he boarded to pickpocket. Kasali was said to have been to prison four times while one of his accomplices also arrested, Ibrahim Yusuph from Ogun State was just out of prison for the eighth time. Upon completion of preliminary screening, four out of 21 arrested suspects, who could provide satisfactory information about their identity, were released.

TROOPS ESTABLISH SCHOOL IN BAMA INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS CAMP

Troops of  Twenty-one Brigade of the Seven Division Nigerian Army have    established a temporary school for the children at the Internally Displaced Persons camp located in Bama town, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State using military tents.  This is to further assist the internally displaced persons and enhance civil-military relations. Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman. Said in a statement said the school comprised six military tents in which soldiers not on essential duty served as teachers. He said some of the  IDPs who were  teachers before the their displacement, also teach in the school. He said the school has a population of over three thousand children, adding that the Brigade has also establish a  section of adult education  for women. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of his Special Adviser on Planning, Ben Akabueze, as the new Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement said Akabueze took over from Tijani Abdullahi who will now serve as Special Adviser to the President on Planning and will continue to work with the Minister of Budget and National Planning. He said both Akabueze and Abdullahi joined the Ministry of Budget and National Planning in February. Adesina said their redeployment was part of an ongoing exercise aimed at further repositioning the ministry to effectively deliver on its core mandate.

The Chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal prosecuting public officers who fail to declare their assets in law, Mr. Danladi Yakubu Umar has clarified that he was only joking with his advocacy for the return decree 2 to regulate the practice of journalism in the country. Umar said that contrary to the impression created in the media he did not advocate for the Decree to harass, intimidate or arrest journalist or any Nigerian for whatever reason. Apo 8: ECOWAS Court Fines Nigeria $3.3m over Extra Judicial Killings

The Economic Community of West African States court has imposed a fine of $3.3mn on Nigeria over the extra-judicial killing of eight citizens in the Apo District of Abuja, Federal Capital Territory. The regional court, ordered the country to pay a compensatory damage of $200,000 to each of the family of its Nigerian citizens killed and $150,000 to each of the injured by a combined team of soldiers and operatives of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) during a raid of an uncompleted building in the Apo Area. The eight Nigerians killed when the security personnel opened fire on them were later found to be commercial motorcycle riders who were taking refuge in the uncompleted building as a result of the high cost of house rent in the capital city. Those killed are Nura Abdullahi , Ashiru Musa, Abdullahi Manmman, Buhari Ibrahim, Suleiman Ibrahim, Ahmadu Musa, Nasir Adamu and Musa Yobe. Nigerian government appoints new heads for NTA, NBC, FRCN,VON, NOA

The Federal Government has appointed new heads for Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Voice of Nigeria (VON), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) National Orientation Agency (NOA) and Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC). The new Chief Executives include, Mr. Ishaq Modibo Kawu who takes over as the Director-General, NBC, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, the new Director-General, NTA and Mr. Mansur Liman, FRCN. Others are Dr. Garba Abari, who is now Director-General, NOA, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, who is the new  Managing Director, NAN and Mr. Osita Okechukwu, who is the new  Director-General, VON. The new appointees replace the Chief Executives of the parastatals who were disengaged on February 15, 2016.

NO Weapon Was Found in Dasuki's Guest House

The Federal High Court in Abuja has been told that no weapons was found in the Guest House of  the former National Security Adviser,  Sambo Dasuki when it was searched by the operative of the DSS last year. At the resumed trial of Dasuki on charges of unlawful possession of firearms, the government witness, Mr. Samuel Ogbu who was under cross examination confirmed no incriminating items was found in the guest house by the security agent. Ogbu who is an operative of DSS was cross-examined by counsel to Dasuki, Mr. Ahmed Raji (SAN) and insisted that the only weapons recovered was in the house of the Ex-NSA The witness told Justice Adeniyi Ademola that some money was found in Dasuki’s house but that he would not know whether the defendant committed money laundering offence or not because he does not know the definition of money laundering under the law. Further trial has been adjourned till June 8 and 9 2016 at the instance of Dasuki’s lawyers.

The ECOWAS Court in Abuja was today told that the security details, including soldiers attached to the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki had not been withdrawn by the federal government when his Asokoro Residence in Abuja was searched over allegations of unlawful possession of arms barely 48 hours after he left office. An operative of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), Mr. Williams Obiora confirmed to the court that a retinue of security agents mainly soldiers was still in the house of the Ex-NSA guarding him when the DSS stormed the house in search of weapons. Obiora said: "We got to the residence on the said date to discover that there were soldiers who guarded him in the house. Efforts to serve him a search warrant was resisted by the soldiers as they claimed that they couldn't access him. The operatives of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, have prevented a mother of four from committing suicide by jumping into the Lagoon with a 12-month old baby. The 27-year-old lady was restrained by two Response riders from plunging into the Lagoon from the top of the Third Mainland Bridge. A cab driver had drawn the attention of the RRS riders on routine patrol of the area to the lady, who was carrying a 12-month old baby at about 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday when the incidence occurred. On interrogation at the RRS Headquarters, she noted that she trekked from Medina Estate in Gbagada to the Third Mainland. She said she heard a voice calling out to her to come to the Third Mainland Bridge. She pointed out that she decided to harken to the call because it was repeated and constant call out to her. Nigerian troops have cleared Boko Haram terrorists out of their Njimia camp  within the Sambisa forest . The troops also cleared Boko Haram terrorists camps at Alafa, where they encountered heavy resistance from Boko Haram terrorists and killed fifteen of them. The troops continued their advance through Alafa Main, Alafa Extension and Alafa Yaga-yaga, where they cleared remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists   hibernating there before arriving at their main objective, Njimia. Troops of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army operating under the auspices of Operation MESA in Zamfara State, have raided suspected cattle rustlers and armed bandits camp at Yan Mangu forest, near Dandindin village, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The troops also arrested two bandits and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 rifle magazine loaded with seven rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunitions, three locally made guns and one motorcycle. ECOWAS Court Orders FG To Justify Dasuki’s Detention In One Day The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court has ordered the Federal Government to justify the detention of former National Security Adviser (NSA) Colonel Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (rtd) in one day. The court also ordered the detained retired army officer to make out his case against government challenging his detention since December last year in one day. Presiding jJdge of the regional court, Justice Friday Chijioke Nwoke, gave the order in Abuja today at the resumed hearing in a legal action instituted by Dasuki to challenge his alleged unlawful detention, unlawful seizure of properties and infringement on his fundamental rights to freedom of liberty.
