The Lagos State Government says the Law against child abuse is still in force in the state. the state Deputy Governor, ADEJOKE ORELOPE-ADEFULIRE, told a delegation of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria in her office today that that the government would intensity its enforcement of the law in order to arrest those in the habit of abusing the right of a child. She said the state government frowns at having minors and under-age children as domestic staff and servants, saying that it is disheartening that the women, who ordinarily should be the care-givers are the major culprits. Mrs Adefulire said the ‘yellow and red-card’ enforcement policy of the government will be intensified, while advising the women to desist from such acts, adding ‘it is not only against the law but also morally wrong’.   She advised the women to encourage their domestic staff to take some formal education, since education is free in the State, or acquire a skill at any of the 17 skill acquisition ...

The Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim today commissioned additional six back-up gun patrol boats to monitor the Lagos State waterways. Ringim during the commissioning of the boats at the state police command of marine department assured the Lagos State Government of the federal government support to increase the security surveillance on the creeks and riverine areas in the state. He said the facilities would ensure that the police provide adequate security around all the federal government installations, vital public and private assets along the riverine areas of Epe through Marina to Badagry. Governor Babatunde Fashola in his remarks appealed to uniform men to always obey traffic rules in the state, saying that there would be no compromise in prosecuting those who violate the traffic rules in Lagos.

The Lagos State Government has raised alarm over some parts of the state that are likely to be flooded during this year’s raining season following the prediction of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency. Some of the areas include Ikosi-Ketu, Mile 12, Owode-Onirin and Isheri North scheme. The state permanent secretary in the office of Drainage Services, Muyideen Akinsanya told newsmen in Alausa that the people of the areas must to the high grounds within the months of June to mid September and October to January. Akinsanya explained that the information became necessary because the capacity of most of the canals within the metropolis is not likely to contain the volume of runoff expected from the rainfall. He also advised residents and property owners along the banks and flood plains to be very vigilant and raise alarm in case of high rise in water level in their areas. He however advised road users to avoid high speed and maintain their vehicles during this period.

The Code of Conduct Bureau has commenced the verification of income and assets declarations of the executive members of Lagos State, South West Nigeria. Those that faced the investigating panel of the Bureau today in Alausa were the Deputy Governor Sarah Sosan, Secretary to the State Government, Adenrele Adeniran-Ogunsanya and some former members of the state cabinet. The Federal Commissioner in-charge of South West, Ademola Adebo who led the team told newsmen that the exercise was meant to make public office holders accountable to the people and to prevent them from using state fund to enrich themselves. He however refused to disclose the team's findings on Governor Alao Akala of Oyo state and those of Lagos state. The team will also meet Governor Babatunde Fashola before moving to Ogun State.

LAWS Governor of Lagos State Babatunde Fashola has signed a total of 54 bills into law in the last four years. The Special Adviser to the governor on Political and Legislative Powers Bureau, AbdulHakeem Abdullateef said in Alausa on Thursday that the governor's public assent to the laws is meant to create awareness and sensitisation among tha people. He said his office has been able to promote political harmony and good governance in the state in the last four years.
