Lagos tasks NPA and NIMASA on removal of over two hundred wrecked vessels along coast line

The Lagos State Government has accused the Nigeria Port Authority and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency of frustrating its efforts at removing the over two hundred wrecked and abandoned vessels along the state coast line. The state commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development ADESEGUN ONIRU at a news conference in Alausa said  President JONATHAN is yet to fulfill the promise he made in 2011 to release funds to the state to address problems associated with ocean surge and removal of the abandoned vessels. ONIRU said the federal government has not released any fund to the state government from the Ecological funds to address the coast line challenges facing Lagos. The commissioner wondered why officials of NIMASA have continued to attack state officials deployed to remove some of the wrecked vessels even when it has refused to address the issue. N2bn debt: OOUTH issues 3-day ultimatum to Ogun Govt

The Joint Health Sector Unions of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun, have issued a three-day ultimatum to the government to off-set N2 billion salary debts it owed the workers. The body comprises the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Seni or Staff Association (SSA) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU). They gave the ultimatum on Wednesday in Sagamu at a news conference. According to the Chairman of the health workers union, Abiodun Ojabello, the debts include March 2011 salary deductions and the 17 months Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Scale (CONTISS) arrears. The other debts are 13 months Consolidated Health Salary Scale (CONHESS) arrears and the Contributory Pension Scheme. CBN increases forex sales by N4bn

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Wednesday increased its forex by 25.73 million dollars (about N4 billion) worth of foreign exchange at its 31st bi-monthly Wholesale Dutch Auction System (WDAS). The apex bank disclosed this on its Website, released after the WDAS trading. The CBN sold 272.25 million dollars (N42.19 billion) as against the 246.52 million dol lars (N38.21 billion) sold on April 22. The CBN had not gone above selling 300 million dollars weekly since the beginning of the month. According to the bank, the naira maintained its appreciation against the dollar at the auction, trading at N155.75 to the dollar. It said that 19 banks participated at the bi-weekly WDAS auction as against 18 banks that traded in the auction on April 22.
