New CP Promises FCT Residents of Intelligence-Led, Quality Policing

The new Commissioner of Police (CP) in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Wale Ajao has pledged to entrench Intelligence led and Quality policing in the seat of power. Ajao spoke while taking over office from his predecessor, AIG Tunji Disu today at the FCT Police Command headquarters.  According to him, the command will not reduce the bar of excellent service  bequeathed to them by the immediate past CP. Coalition Warns Against Using Climate Crisis to Privatise Public Water in Africa

Our Water Our Right Africa Coalition (OWORAC) has called for urgent action to safeguard Africa’s water resources from what it describes as the twin threats of climate change and water privatisation.  The members of the coalition include SYNATEEC Trade Union, Cameroon; African Centre for Policy and Advocacy, Cameroon; Biodiversity and Biosafety Association, Kenya; Confédération de Syndicats Autonomes du Sénégal and Senegal Water Justice Network, Senega Others are Water Citizens Network, Ghana; Revenue Mobilization Africa, Ghana; Corporate Accountability and Public Participation (CAPPA), and Corporate Accountability, USA. In a recent statement to mark the world marks World Water Day 2025, the coalition called on African governments to protect water as a public good, warning against the growing trend of treating water as a market commodity.  It decried attempts to justify water privatisation under the guise of climate adaptation. Public Water: Cappa urges Lagos to resist temptation to privatise or concession Adiyan II project

Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has strongly urged the Lagos State Government to resist any temptation to privatise or concession the Adiyan II project and other water treatment facilities across the state.  In a statement by its Media and Communications Officer, Robert Egbe, made over the weekend, the nongovernmental organisation said that water is not a commodity to be sold to the highest bidder.  It warned that if Adiyan II or any other public water facility is handed over to private corporations, Lagosians will suffer-higher tariffs, restricted access, and corporate exploitation. The statement emphasised that privatising Lagos' water supply would undermine the massive investments already made by the state. Media Rights Agenda (MRA) on Friday called on media stakeholders to take urgent steps to empower female journalists to play more prominent roles in newsrooms, editorial leadership, and decision-making spaces within the media sector.  It urged them to create environments where such journalists can thrive without fear of harassment, discrimination or violence. World Obesity Day: CAPPA Renews Call For Healthy Food Policies

Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has renewed its call for comprehensive healthy food policies to strengthen local diets and tackle the country’s rising obesity and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) burden. In a statement by its Media and Communications Officer, Robert Egbe to commemorate World Obesity Day (WOD), on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the civil society organisation (CSO) highlighted the alarming data on the global obesity scourge, saying it reinforced CAPPA’s advocacy for urgent measures to discourage Nigerians from excessively consuming sugary drinks, which are a risk factor for overweight and obesity.   These measures, CAPPA said, include raising the tax imposed on Sugar-Sweetened Beverages (SSB) Tax from the current N10, to N130 per litre or by any rate that is not less than 20 per cent of the product’s retail price. In bid to checkmate the incessant bad and reckless preaching by some preachers in Ilorin, league of Islamic scholars have tasked the authority of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) to enforce disciplinary action against any erring person irrespective of his status. This call was made recently during an IEDPU meeting held at its National Secretariat, Geri Alimi, Ilorin, aimed at discussing and finding solutions to contemporary challenges facing the community, whereby the bad preaching causes disaffection among the people in the ancient City.
