Edo Decides: IPC Tasks Journalists, Security Operatives and Other Stakeholders on Safety

  The International Press Centre, IPC, has enjoined journalists and other media professionals that would be on electoral duty in Edo State on Saturday, 21st September 2024 to pay deserved attention to their safety.  IPC in a statement in Lagos on Thursday by its Press Freedom Officer, Melody Akinjiyan also urged security operatives and other stakeholders that would be involved in the Edo State Governorship election to help ensure the safety of journalists.  IPC's Executive Director, Mr. Lanre Arogundade said the call was necessary because of the consistent trend of journalists being victims of attacks during election period and the conflicts and tension by political actors and other players in the electoral process in the state.  “It is very important for journalists covering the Edo State election to be safety conscious in the discharge of their duties, and to avoid situations that will put them in danger. Lagos Police Commence Investigation into Video of Police Officer in Altercation with Elderly Woman

IGP redeploys police commissioners for FCT, Rivers, Delta

The order covers the redeployment of the CP Rivers State Command, CP Olatunji Disu as the new CP FCT; CP Delta State Command, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi as the new CP Rivers State Command and CP FCT, CP Peter Opara as the new CP Delta State. Traffic Enforcement: Lagos Taskforce impounds 56 vehicles, arrests 7 suspects at Obalende, Oworonshoki

Arrested suspects  A total of 56 vehicles have been impounded and seven suspects arrested by the operatives of Lagos State Taskforce for alleged traffic infractions and obstruction at Obalende and Oworonshoki areas of the state.  During the course of the exercise, an officer of the Agency sustained injuries after being attacked by a commercial bus operator who resisted the impoundment of his vehicle.  The injured officer is receiving medical attention, and the perpetrator has been arrested. The operation, led by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, is part of the continuous campaign to restore sanity on Lagos roads and eliminate bottlenecks caused by commercial bus operators. NiDCOM Hails Diaspora Contributions to National Development

Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has commended the contributions of the Nigerian diaspora to both the Nigerian economy and their host countries. The Advisory Board of the Nigeria Prize for Science has named Eni Oko, Olajide Otitoju, and Meihong Wang as the joint winner of the 2024 edition of the Prize.  The trio was recognised for their pioneering work on “Process Intensification Technology for Greenhouse Emission Control in Power Generation and Industry for Sustainable Fuel Production (PIC-FUEL)”. At a news conference held on Monday, the Board highlighted the importance of the 2024 competition theme, “Innovations and Technologies for Reducing the Effect of Climate Change,” which underscored the need for urgent solutions to environmental challenges. Domestic Violence: Lagos Assembly Urges Enlightenment Units In Schools

The Lagos State House of Assembly has emphasised the need for a proactive approach in addressing domestic and sexual violence in the state. At a sitting presided over by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, the House stressed the importance of establishing guidance and counseling units in schools and religious institutions as a way to reach out to the public and prevent such violence. The House also called on the Ministry of Information to continue its enlightenment campaigns. Moving a motion under 'Matter of Urgent Public Importance', Hon. Omolara Olumegbon, representing Lagos Island 1, highlighted the necessity of educating children about domestic violence. She urged that the existing laws be given the needed spark while there should be improvement in sensation and enlightenment.
