Death of IDPs and aid workers in Rann, a monumental loss – TY Danjuma

The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative (PCNI), General TY Danjuma RTD has described as tragic, the death of civilians that occurred due to the accidental bombing by the Nigerian Air Force in Rann, Kala Balge, Borno State. He said the monumental loss at the camp in Rann, was not only tragic but highly regrettable. General Danjuma in a statement released by the PCNI 's Head of Media and Communications, Alkasim Abdulkadir expressed his heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Borno State. "Our thoughts and prayers are with IDP families, the International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC, Medicines Sans Frontiers MSF, Nigerian Red Cross NRC and other volunteers affected by the ill-fated incident", he said. NEMA, Stakeholders Condoles Victims of Rann

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and stakeholders in humanitarian activities in North-East have condoled victims of accidental airstrike that occurred in Rann, Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno state. The stakeholders who meet monthly to review developmental activities in internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) Camps and host communities also observed a minute of silence in memory of Humanitarian workers from the Nigerian Red Cross and others who died in the bombing incident. The meeting also discused measures being put in place to receive and host 1300 IDPs expected to from Abuja. The stakeholders meeting organised by NEMA is a forum for all partners engaged in humanitarian activities in Borno state. It offers a platform for all actors to meet with Federal and state Government Agencies involved in humanitarian activities to facilitate collaboration and cooperation in operations. N1.64bn Fraud: Nyame Knows Fate Feb 14

A former governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, who is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Gudu on a 41-count charge of criminal misappropriation of N1.64bn state funds will know his fate on February 14, 2017 as to whether he has a case to answer or not.   The prosecution had on November 22, 2016 closed its case against Nyame after presenting 14 witnesses. The trial, however, witnessed a twist on the same day, as the defence told the court that it intended to file a "no case" submission, as it believed that there was no prima facie case established against Nyame. N1.162bn Fraud: Dariye Accuses Judge of ‘Undisguised Bias,’ Seeks Case Transfer

In what seems a plan to frustrate his trial, Joshua Dariye, former Plateau State governor, who is facing a 23-count charge at a Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Gudu, has accused the trial judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko of “undisguised bias”. Dariye is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly diverting about N1.162 billion from the state’s Ecological Fund, to private companies and individuals. His trial resumed on January 25, 2016 after the Supreme Court on February 27, 2015, dismissed his appeal to quash the charges and ordered Dariye's “expeditious” trial. The prosecution had on June 6, 2016 closed its case against him, after presenting 10 witnesses, including Peter Clark, a retired detective constable with the UK Metropolitan Police, who investigated money laundering charges against him in the UK. EFCC Seeks Immigration's Assistance in Tracking Fraudsters

The South South Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Ishaq Salilu, on Wednesday January 18, 2017 called for an enhanced collaboration between the EFCC and the Nigeria Immigration Services, NIS, in checking the menace of criminals and fraudsters in the country. Salihu made this remark when he received the Comptroller of Immigration, Rivers State , A. B. Yarima who paid him a courtesy visit in his office. ”We pray for a deepened collaboration. We are very ready to partner with you” he said. NAF DEPLOYS TO SENEGAL TO ENFORCE ECOWAS MANDATE IN THE GAMBIA

The Nigerian Air Force has deployed to Senegal as part of Nigerian contingent of Economic Community of West African States Military Intervention in Gambia (ECOMIG) – a standby force tasked by ECOWAS Heads of State to enforce the December 1, 2016 election mandate in the The Gambia. The NAF today moved a contingent of 200 men and air assets comprising fighter jets, transport aircraft, Light Utility Helicopter as well as Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance aircraft to Dakar from where it is expected to operate into Gambia. The deployment is also to forestall hostilities or breakdown of law and order that may result from the current political impasse in The Gambia. Police arrest 11 staff of Radio Kano over alleged vandalism of transmitter

Eleven members of staff of Kano State Radio, including the Director, Engineering services have been arrested over alleged vandalism of the station’s transmitter. The transmitter is located at Jogana Village in Gezawa Local Government Area of the state. Spokesman of the state police command, Magaji Majiya said the suspects were arrested on Thursday, January 12 after the management of the station reported the matter to the police. He said five security guards, two engineers and two generator operators are currently in police custody.

President Buhari condemns UNIMAID bombing

President Muhammadu Buhari has strongly condemned the terrorist attack Monday morning at a mosque in the University of Maiduguri. The President expressed sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the University Community, families of the victims and the government and people of Borno State. President Buhari said the appalling attack on a revered place of worship and Ivory Tower shows that the perpetrators have no true understanding of Islam. Suicide Bomber Kills Professor, 4 Others At University Of Maiduguri

A professor and four other people have been when a male suicide bomber detonated a bomb at the Senior Staff Quarters of the University of Maiduguri, (UNIMAID), Borno State. The professor was identified as Aliyu Usman Mani, the Director of Veterinary of the University. The incident occurred in a mosque near Gate 1, not the main Central Mosque, during early morning Islamic Prayers, Subhi around 5am. The Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu, said that 15 people, who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to hospital. He said the second blast occurred at about 5:45 a.m. after a mobile police officer who is on duty sighted a suicide bomber who was trying to scale the fence at Gate Five of the university. The police boss said the officer who was suspicious of his movement, instantly gunned him down and his bomb exploded and killed him instantly.
