Customs seizes N14.6m frozen products

The Nigeria Customs Service has recorded seizures of Frozen poultry products worth N14,611,500.00. The service in a statement in by its spokesman, Joseph Attah said the record was made in the sixth and Seventh weeks of zero tolerance on importation of frozen poultry products tagged “Operation Hawk Descend”. The seizures which consist of 3,247 cartons of the banned products were impounded at different locations along the south western borders of Nigeria. This includes Badagry, Agbara Creeks and Villages. Others locations include Seme, Gbaji and Owode Creeks in Lagos and Idiroko axis. The breakdown of the seizures is as follows; OGUN: Quantity=1,120 cartons; Value: N5,040,000.00 SEME: Quantity = 146 cartons; Value = N657,000.00 FOU A: Quantity = 1,981cartons; Value = N8,914,500.00 While commending the steadfastness of the operatives in this operation, the management of the service assures the general public of its determination to continue the onslaught against the smugglers of t

Nigerian Navy Warns Ship Owners Against Oil Theft

The Nigerian navy has intensified efforts to ensure safety of the maritime industry by taking measures to apprehend criminals on the sea. The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas stated this while hosting the Nigerian Ship Owners Association in his office in Abuja. While urging the ship owners against the use of their vessels for crude oil theft, he said any suspect caught would be treated saboteurs who deserved stiff penalties. The naval chief remarked that, "while acknowledging that the majority of your member are carrying out legitimate business out there and like any other society you still have some bad elements that are perhaps dragging your name back, dragging the reputation back. EFCC Returns 10, 540 Euros to Polish Victim of Love Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has recovered and returned the sum of 10, 540 Euros to a polish victim of Internet love scam. The victim, simply identified as Jamina, was allegedly duped 40,000 Euros by the suspect, Gabriel Oseremen Xavi who operates a fake Facebook account with the name, Collins Page. The suspect was traced to Benin City, Edo State, where he was arrested by EFCC operatives following a petition by the victim. Speaking on Wednesday at the Belgium Embassy, Abuja during the presentation of the sum of 10,540 Euro recovered from the suspected Internet fraudster, Ibrahim Lamorde, Chairman of EFCC, charged Western diplomats to sensitize their citizens against Internet love scam. Lamorde, who also urged them to focus more on lonely elderly people who have been found to be easy prey, added that “All the assets acquired by the suspect from the proceeds of the crime will be disposed off at the conclusion of trail, and the money returned to the victim.” Th

Yemi Osinbajo says Federal Government Will Insist On The Rule Of Law In Nigeria

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the Federal Government would ensure that no one is above the law, saying this is the first rule of any developed country. Prof. Osinbajo who spoke while receiving the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja said there is no reason why Nigeria also should not be well run like such countries. According to him, "good economies are run by men not spirits. Men and women like you and I, flesh and blood. There is no reason why our country cannot be well run." PRESIDENT BUHARI AND U.S VICE-PRESIDENT BIDEN COMPARE NOTES ON ANTI-TERROR WAR 

The breakfast meeting hosted today by American Vice President, Joe Biden, afforded him opportunity to compare notes with his guest, President Muhammadu Buhari on the terror war. America had been beleaguered by terrorists, who launched massive attacks that killed thousands in September 2001, while Nigeria battles the Boko Haram sect causing carnage in the North-eastern part of the country. President Buhari appoints new Commandant-General for NSCDC

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu as the new Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu  succeeds Ade Abolurin, who has retired from service. Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, who was an Assistant Commandant-General of the NSCDC before his new appointment, hails from Muye in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State. He holds a B.Sc in Sociology from the University of Sokoto, and a Masters in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. President Buhari wishes Dr. Abolurin a happy retirement.

PRESIDENCY DENIES CLAIM THAT PRESIDENT BUHARI EXPRESSED ANTI-IGBO SENTIMENTS IN BBC INTERVIEW

The presidency says the claim by a pirate radio station that President Muhammadu Buhari expressed anti-Igbo sentiments in a recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service is completely false, malicious and slanderous. Corruption Charge: Ex- Gov Sule Lamido, Sons Remanded In Prison

A former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, his two sons Aminu and Mustapha and one Aminu Wada Abubakar are to remain in prison till September 28, 2015. The quartet were remanded in prison custody this morning by Justice Evelyn Anyadike of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano after they were docked on a 28-count charge of corruption and money laundering brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. They were arraigned alongside four companies where the Lamidos are believed to have interest. The companies are Bamaina Holdings Limited, Bamiana Company Nigeria Limited, Bamaina Aluminum Limited and Speeds International Limited. Lamido is said to have abused his position as governor of Jigawa State between 2007 and 2015, by awarding contracts to companies where he has interest, using his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha as front. Military Maintains Essential Checkpoints - Sambo Dasuki NSA

Contrary to popular belief, the Presidency has never ordered the dismantling of all military checkpoints along Nigerian highways.   The National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) said after a meeting with top military and security officers in his office in Abuja on Thursday that President Muhammadu Buhari never ordered a blanket dismantling of checkpoints from the highways. According to Dasuki, military roadblocks in flashpoints will continue to be maintained while those in relatively peaceful areas will be dismantled but soldiers will still be positioned in those areas while not blocking roads. He said it is both conventional and a global practice for governments to increase security measures whenever insecurity is heightened and appealed to citizens to endure attendant inconveniences as they are temporary.
