Libel: Court orders IGP, SSS to confiscate Obasanjo’s book

An FCT High Court on Wednesday ordered the Inspector General of Police, Director-General of State Security Services and Controller General of Nigeria Customs Services to confiscate Obasanjo`s book from public vendors. Justice Valentine Ashi, gave the order after former President Olusegun Obasanjo allegedly went ahead to publish his book titled “ My Watch’’ in spite of a court order made on Dec. 5, restraining him from making the publication. “ I am of the view that the defendant having gone ahead to publish the book, he should therefore show cause within 21 days of the order served on him on why he should not be punished for contempt of court. “ The Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of State Security Services and the Controller General of Nigeria Customs Services are hereby directed to recover the book from sales vendors,” the Judge ordered. He directed that the book should be kept with the registrar of the court pending the determination of the suit. As

INEC to train security operatives before 2015 elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission says it is working closely with security agencies to provide additional training of security officials on election duty. INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the additional training became necessary because election duty “requires specialised training”. Court Jails Two Pastors 7 Years for Stealing N32m

Justice F. O Ohwo of  Delta State High Court, Warri, Delta State has convicted and sentenced Pastor Glory Okeoghene Abrefera and Reverend Vincent Okpogu to seven years imprisonment each for stealing depositors' funds amounting to 32 million naira. The two clergymen were nabbed after deceiving unsuspecting members of the public into investing in Mustard Seed Micro Investment Limited, a wonder bank, and defrauded them of their hard-earned money.  While delivering judgment today, Justice Ohwo convicted the accused persons on all of the nine count charges preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC. They were sentenced to seven years imprisonment on each count. The sentence is to run concurrently. According to the judge, the convicts will serve the seven-year term at Okere Prisons in Warri, Delta State, after completing the ten years sentence they are currently serving for illegal banking. Rescuers evacuate victims of Kantin Kwari blast and cordon off the area

Following the explosions today at the Kantin Kwari Market area in Kano metropolis, rescue workers and security operatives have evacuated all persons affected by the blasts to hospitals and cordoned off the location to forestall the danger of any secondary explosions. The blasts occurred at about 3 pm. The victims were evacuated to the nearby Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and Nassarawa Hospital where they presently being treated of the various degrees of  injuries that they have sustained. Rescue officers from the North West zonal office of the National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) led by Musa Ilela joined state officials, security operatives  and local sympathizers at the scene in carrying out the rescue and evacuation. Twin explosions kill 6, injure 7 in Kano

Police Command in Kano State has confirmed the death of six persons, including two female suicide bombers following a twin blast at Kantin Kwari market, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Kano on Wednesday. The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Aderenle Shinaba, confirmed the figures while briefing newsmen at the scene of the incident. He explained that the incident happened around 3: 30 p.m. when the two female bombers in Hijab and wanted to enter a branch of Unity Bank near the market area. He said that the security men attached to the bank stopped them because they saw them as people who should not have anything to do with the bank. “They later moved away toward the market area and asked for public utility and immediately after, one of them detonated the bomb. “Shortly after the first one was detonated, the second one went off and as a result six persons died including the bombers,’’ he said.
